Interview (Shawna & Tre) Tre: “Hey Chris.” Andrew: “How’s it goin’? Shawna: Which one…” Andrew: Uh, this is Andrew. Shawna: Hey Andrew, this is Tre and Shawna from Mania TV Andrew: “How’s it goin’? Shawna: Good! How are you? Andrew: (muffled) “…right now” Tre: “Say again?” Chris: “This is Chris.” Tre: “Hey Chris.” Shawna: Ohhh. Tre: “Tag teaming, tag teaming the phone.” Andrew: “Yeah, we actually just finished tag teaming some hoes Shawna: Hahaha Tre: Exactly, exactly Shawna: Haha, oh God, you know what? You guys are gonna make me look real bad alright? Tre: Tell us about your tour, you were just in town last week, you stopped by the studio, and uh now you got the Myspace Mixtape, how’s uh, how was your tour? Andrew: “It was fantastic” Chris: “It was pretty rad, we had uh just about everything bad happen that could possibly happen, but at the same time, it was the funnest three weeks ever. We had to hitchhike at one point.” Tre: “You had to hitchhike?” Chris: “Yeah, somebody broke into our van and stole some of our stuff.” Tre: “No way!” Shawna: “That’s horrible!” Tre: “When did that happen?” Chris: “Then I had to go to the hospital twice cause my eye all like, puffed up Tre: “No way!” Chris: “Yeah, we had everything go wrong that could go wrong but we still pulled off a successful tour.” Tre: “Where’d you go to get your stuff ripped off?” Andrew: Uh, Omaha, Nebraska, well actually it was technically Iowa, but Omaha, Nebraska.” Tre: “Somewhere in the middle of America?” Andrew: “Absolutely.” Tre: “Dude, that’s messed up because – One, Omaha has a great music scene and two, people in the Midwest are usually raised better than that. Shawna: “Yeah, that’s true.” Chris: Were you um, referencing a Counting Crows song?” Tre: “I was, I’m sorry.” Chris: “I got that, it was clever.” Tre: “So seriously, I gotta know, have you guys ever tag teamed some hoes on tour or what?” Andrew: “If all goes well…” Shawna: “You know what I was…” Andrew: “If all goes well, we’re tag teaming 500 at the same time.” Shawna: “Oh my God.” Tre: “Wow!” Shawna: “I was just…[Chris says something] Shawna: “oh go head.” Chris: “Usually, um, I dunno, after shows I like to go to the van to play video games… Tre: “Like what, adult superstars?” Andrew: “Somehow…doing lots of drugs at the same time though.” Tre: “Well, as long as you have video games involved.” Shawna: “You know, I just told everybody, all the viewers that you guys were like nice guys, respectable gentlemen, and then you pull out the hoes card.” Andrew: “No, you pulled out the hoes card…” Shawna: “Damn it!” Andrew: “…and we just tried to continue with it.” Shawna: “That was Tre, that was not me, I said good things.” Andrew: “Thank you for saying we’re attractive young men.” Shawna: “You’re welcome, I take it back! Hehe, just kidding!” Chris: [muffled]…sarcastic…[muffled]…and like, I’m always afraid that people don’t get it. Shawna: “Oh, I get it. I’m with you, we’re on the same page.” Andrew: “I usually just assume incredibly [outrageous?] people get it, but Chris does.” Tre: “It’s the smart people that get it.” Shawna: “That’s right.” Andrew: “Yeah, I assume you guys are of high intelligence and so are your viewers.” Shawna: “Totally.” Chris: “It’s pretty cool like, we were there and seeing all the offices in school buses and stuff.” Tre: “Yeah, totally man, it’s a good time around here.” Chris: “Your boss reminded me of David Brent, from “The Office.” Tre & Shawna: “Haha.” Shawna: “Oh no.” Tre: “So who are you guys on tour with?” Andrew: “We were on tour with a bunch of different bands, I mean, we played, actually it was a tour that I booked. We were playing with different bands every night. But soon, we’ll be going on tour this fall with, uh, specific bands, it’ll be an actual tour, rather than just, a lot of shows put together. Tre: “Well that’s cool. So when did you guys, how did you guys go about recording your own album? Can you tell the people…How many people out there these days who have the software, computers, and the knowledge to just go head and do their own album, what did you guys find, was the most challenging part, putting together your own record?” Chris: “Um, well, I mean, I uh, I went to school, I studied recording in school a little bit, and um, we were in and out of a few studios, but we found like, we had the most fun and we came out with the best product, um, maybe not the most polished product, but the most like raw, like uh, recording with the most energy, and like, the feeling, and the humanism in it. But when we were just sitting in my room, ya know, recording on like an FM-57, I think that the most challenging part was to actually like get it out there, and get a record company to be interested in it. And… Andrew: “The first track on the um, Myspace profile was done in Chris’ bedroom.” Shawna: “Really?” Tre: “Cool!” Shawna: “So you guys have to do your own marketing, solicit yourself to a record company?” Andrew: “Yeah exactly, we had the record, and we just licensed The Legend of Harley Knowles to Takeover Records, and uh, it’s gonna be released nationally, October 18th. Tre: “Wow!” Shawna: “Nice.” Tre: “That’s awesome, congratulations. So you guys hang out in the OC, born and raised or what?” Andrew: “We were born in Southern California, but we grew up in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC and we actually just moved back to Southern California a week ago, at the end of our tour. Tre: “Oh, no kidding.” Shawna: “Oh wow, you guys are busy.” Chris: “[We have our?] furniture and stuff in our trailer, with all our equpment.” Shawna: “Oh, I hope it doesn’t get broken into.” Chris: “What’s that?” Shawna: “I hope it doesn’t get broken into.” Andrew: “We got a big padlock…” Shawna: “Ah, good.” Andrew: “That was the first thing I bought to go with the trailer was a big padlock.” Shawna: “Nice thinking.” Tre: “Good idea… so who uh, who does your website, do you guys do your website or what? Chris: “I do the website mostly, and like I dunno, we have this pretty cool um system worked out like, it’s a good team. Because, I do a lot of the uh, songwriting, I write all the songs constantly, um, writing songs and playing the piano and just being like a huge nerd. And then Andrew’s out there, he’s got the like, math brain and the financial brain, and he’s always like booking uh, shows, and like negotiating record contracts and all this ridiculous stuff and I just get to like chill out and write songs, so it’s pretty cool.” Shawna: “Nice, that’s awesome.” Tre: “Good stuff, well hey um…” Chris: “[muffled] after you asked me about the website, I dunno where that all came from.” Shawna: “No it’s good, good info.” Andrew: “Our good friend Wes also helps us run the website, and um, Matt, our good friend Matt is also gonna help us run the website which is a load off our backs, which is gonna be nice.” Chris: “I never update it, and Andrew gets mad at me.” Shawna: “Haha.” Tre: “Well hey, congrats on getting your record, uh, picked up by Takeover Records. Good luck with that, we hope to uh, hear ya, and obviously if you guys are anywhere near Mania TV get your asses back in here.” Chris: “Yeah, we’ll stop by and sleep in one of the buses.” Shawna: “Sweet.” Tre: “We promise not to break into your van.” Chris: “Thanks for having us.” Shawna & Tre: “Yeah.” Shawna: “Good luck with everything.” Andrew: “You should listen to Radiohead, I think if you listen to them more you might like ‘em a little more.” Shawna: “Alllright, maybe you guys should stop tag teaming hoes then.” Andrew: “Hehehe.” Tre: “By the way, great picks this hour. Great, great picks, I was excited about it. I still am. Andrew: “Have a great night.” Shawna: “You too, take care.” Tre: “See you guys.”
